With 146 plates, 82 of which are in colour, and a large folding plate to Voume I. Four volumes 4to ((12 1/2 x 9 3/4 inches), publisher's half tan calf gilt, marbled boards. The 4 volumes contained within the original custom wooden case with hinged lift-up reading lectern; with brass presentation plate, this not engraved. The four volumes in truly excellent condition.

The four volumes comprise: Volume I. Fossil Mammalia. by Robert Owen. Volume II. Mammalia. by George Waterhouse. Volume III. Birds by John Gould. Volume IV. Fish by Leonard Jenyns; together with Reptillia byThomas Bell. This set was printed and bound to match Darwin's personal copy.
